KIRK HOUSE, YORK
LEDA worked alongside Carve Architecture for Greyhawk Property Company to redevelop an old office block situated between The Mount and Bishopthorpe Road area of central York, to design 21 Apartments to a luxury standard, as one, two or three bedrooms and fitted with premium appliances and smart controls.
Making minimal adaptations to the existing structure whilst incorporating all the necessary escape routes and firefighting facilities proved the biggest challenge to overcome, and through detailed 3D coordination and careful consideration of the regulations suitable solutions were found.
The resulting scheme has a communal heating system with heat interface units for each apartment, providing high hot water capacity whilst negating the need for lots of individual gas boilers and cylinder in each apartment. The building renovation included internal wall insulation and new windows to provide an improved energy efficiency, and each apartment has smart controls to minimise the heating energy required.
