Passivhaus Home, Shipley
A new build, high quality passive house dwelling in a former garden plot, designed to maximise the site potential to create a 3 bedroom (125 m2) detached dwelling that will respect and enhance the existing area character. It is one of the first Passive House dwellings to be built in the Bradford area.
The design allows for an adaptable layout to allow for ageing residents with the flexibility to also function well as a family home, providing optimum present and future usefulness whilst minimising environmental impact.
External materials reflect both the local vernacular with the use of natural stone and reference the nearby woodland areas, with the distinctive contemporary detailing of the UK grown larch cladding.
From the outset, the client’s aspirations for this project were very clear and our sustainable design responded to their vision. The success of the finished home is testament to the proactive collaboration of the whole project team, and to the client’s environmental principles.
In addition to being a high performing passive house dwelling:
• Contemporary design that respects the surrounding context
• Photovoltaic solar panels
• Rainwater harvesting
• Use where possible of renewable and low impact materials:
• Timber frame wall and roof construction
• ‘Warmcell’ cellulose/recycled newspaper insulation
• Cork flooring throughout the ground floor
• High performance timber doors and windows
