Tree Health Centre, Yorkshire Arboretum
Based at the Yorkshire Arboretum at Castle Howard, The Tree Health Centre is a pioneering initiative that aims to make people more aware of the importance of a healthy treescape, and the problems caused by tree pests and diseases. It offers specialist training in tree health matters and tree management for anyone with a professional or personal interest in trees. We worked with Salt Architects to provide a new single-storey extension to the existing centre comprising a classroom, meeting room, staff office area as well as toilets, storage and reception. A lobby links the Tree Health Centre to the existing Visitor Centre, creating an entrance for students and visitors. LEDA designed the full building services including an Air Source Heat Pump system with underfloor heating, natural ventilation strategy including passive roof ventilators, standard electrical services and internal and external lighting.
