PV Systems and Funding
PV (photo-voltaic) Systems have had support in the form of the Feed in Tariff (FIT) until April 2019. Since it ended, we have all been waiting for news on what would be offered as an alternative.
The government announced on the 10th June 2019 “The Smart Export Guarentee” and a proposed launch date of 1st January 2020. However.
Smart Export Guarentee (SEG)
Under the scheme homeowners and businesses will be paid per kWh by energy suppliers for the energy exported to the grid. FITs by contrast paid per kWh generated and a smaller amount for 50% of the generated that was deemed to be exported.
Each supplier will determine the price of their Smart Export Guarantee (greater than 0p per kWh) but the contract lengths are totally varible.
Interestingly there is already one supplier https://octopus.energy/outgoing/ who have export tariffs and we expect many more to follow, especially in the greener end of the market.
How does tis affect the PV design?
A system still needs
- to be under 5,000 kW (easy for most buildings !);
- A Smart Meter at the property;
- Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) certified equipment and approved installer.
